Small Dog Breeds: All Types of Small Dogs

Is a Small Dog Breed Right for You?

Small dogs are great companion dogs. Generally they measure 10 inches or less from the shoulder to ground They are typically spunky, friendly dogs that do well in smaller homes or apartments (although they still need exercise). They make ideal lapdogs.

However, small dogs breeds, particular toy dog breeds, are not ideal pets in households with children. Toy dogs are already fragile by nature and may not do well with rough handling. Therefore, toy dog breeds do best with adult companions.

Here is a list of all types of small dogs, starting with the toy breeds.
