The Basset Hound is good natured, mild mannered and sweet.
As they have a tendency to gain weight, it is important that
they get daily walks and that their food intake is monitored.
They are good with kids and generally tolerant of strangers.
They can be a bit stubborn, but do well with calm obedience
training. Harsh discipline and leash jerking are not appropriate
for this gentle breed. Like other hounds, he bays a lot.
Physical Features and Grooming
Basset Hounds are medium sized, approx. 15 inches tall and
40-55 pounds. They have smooth, hard coats and need brushing
weekly. His coat is a combination of black, white and tan.
His ears hang down and he has sad looking brown eyes.
Health Issues
Basset Hounds are prone to bloat, ear infections, eye problems
including glaucoma, and disk problems.
