The Affenpinscher is spunky, hardy, high-strung (he trembles
frequently), can be excitable around other dogs or strangers,
and has a mind of his own. He will need a firm hand, otherwise
he may be very demanding. He is very bright and responds well
to obedience training.
He can be snappy when startled or annoyed and may exhibit
food or toy guarding.
Physical Features and Grooming:
He has a short, wiry coat, bushy beard and eyebrows. He is
usually black but may be black and tan, red or gray. He is
approx. 10 inches tall and weighs under 8 pounds. The Affenpinscher
should be brushed and combed twice a week and dead hairs stripped
twice a year.
Health Issues
The Affenpinscher is susceptible to fractures, ulcers on
his eyes (which protrude), respiratory difficulties and slipped
stifle, which is a joint disorder.
