The Afghan Hound is aristocratic, noble, aloof, and gentle,
yet he is also energetic, extremely agile, a fast runner and
a real jumper. Only let him off leash in a safe, enclosed
area. Some can be nervous, and some are timid around strangers.
Afghans get along with other dogs. Obedience
training can help boost their confidence and control their
stubborn streak, but avoid leash jerking. They can be hard
to housebreak.
Physical Features:
Afghans stand 24-28 inches tall and weigh 50-60 pounds. This
dignified dog has a long, silky coat, a topknot on his head
and long ears. He will need frequent brushing and combing
to avoid matting. His coloring may be black, silver, cream,
or brindle.
Health Issues
Afghan Hounds are prone to hip dysplasia, cataracts, paralysis,
and can be sensitive to drugs, including flea powders.
